3.13.20 COVID-19 Community Update

Dear Miller Creek Community:

 

Based on recommendation from the Marin County Public Health Officer we will suspend classroom based learning for Miller Creek School District schools for students for at least 2 weeks beginning Monday, March 16 with students returning to school on Monday, March 30. 

 

We would like to emphasize that there are no known cases of COVID-19 among Miller Creek School District staff or students at this time. However, as the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation has unfolded, it has become clear that the most responsible action, at this moment, is for us to take a proactive versus reactive approach to social distancing and other containment measures. All school-related events will either be cancelled or postponed during the school closures.

While our classrooms are empty, our work on behalf of children continues. Thank you to the educators who have prepared remote learning opportunities to share with families so that learning can continue while students are at home. Teachers will communicate daily learning plans starting Tuesday, March 17th. These learning plans are meant to maintain continuity of learning, but will not fully replicate in-class experiences.

Services for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) will continue, to the extent possible, during the closure period. Parents/guardians of students with IEPs will be contacted by their student’s Case Manager, by the end of the day on Tuesday, March 17.

The use of technology will be vital in our efforts to design and communicate remote instruction. If your family needs assistance with accessing technology or wifi,  please contact your classroom teacher or front office staff and our district will find a way to support you.

 

Our decision to return will be based on a variety of factors. We continue to partner with the Marin County Office of Education and Marin County Health and Human Services to understand the situation in real time, learn about key recommendations, and to determine the most effective short and long term solutions. Please note that these closure dates for students may be adjusted as circumstances change and if so, we will do everything we can to give you as much notice as possible. We will continue to communicate updated information via email, text, and on the District website.
